Police say these statistics cover only those incidents investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police and do not include incidents to which other law enforcement agencies responded.

Officials say the 2025-26 budget signed by Gov. Shapiro will help prevent crashes by investing $15 million for traffic enforcement on Pennsylvania’s roadways and supporting the hiring of four additional PSP cadet classes.

Since he took office, Governor Shapiro has secured funding for twelve cadet classes to train over 1,000 new Pennsylvania State Troopers and secured funding through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) to help municipal police departments recruit and retain nearly 700 municipal police officers across the Commonwealth, according to the release.

To date, more than 500 PSP cadets have graduated and joined the ranks of PSP under Governor Shapiro’s leadership.

If you are interested in becoming a trooper, PSP says their latest hiring cycle is open until Jan. 23, 2026. After five years of service, troopers can earn approximately $95,557.
