The most of the winter storm-related speed limit reduction placed on Interstate 81 in south-central Pennsylvania earlier in the day has been lifted.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation took the measure as a winter storm with snow, sleet and freezing rain moved through the area on the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025.

The speed limit on Interstate 81 was lowered to 45 from the Maryland line through Franklin, Cumberland, Dauphin and Lebanon counties to the Schuylkill County line. In addition, commercial vehicles were limited to the right lane.

The speed limit is back to normal on I-81 as far as Interstate 78 in Lebanon County, but remains 45 mph from I-78 to the Lebanon -Schuylkill line.
