A longtime Abingtons meat shop is closing its doors to customers this week.
Trovato’s Meat Market will close, with its last day of business being Friday, the business said in a Facebook post Tuesday. They cited increasing challenges from a changing economy and growing competition from large grocery chains.
“Despite my best efforts and the incredible support I have received from so many customers, friends, family, staff and the community as a whole, I can no longer continue to keep Trovato’s open,” owner Brian Schirg wrote.
Schirg has owned the shop on Lackawanna Trail in Glenburn Twp. for eight years, although the business has been around for nearly 100 years, he said. Its products include beef, pork, veal, lamb, poultry, seafood, deli and dairy items.
Schirg expressed gratitude to customers who have stopped by the business over the years.
“It has been an honor to continue the legacy of this historic shop, and I am truly humbled by the loyalty and kindness this community has shown Trovato’s over the years,” he wrote. “In the coming days, I hope you’ll stop by so myself and my staff can thank you in person. Though this chapter is ending, we will always cherish the memories and relationships built here.”
