The search for a missing African Serval, which escaped from a Pennsylvania wildlife center, has ended in tragedy after the animal was struck by a car.

Cricket Wildlife Center in Berks County shared that last month, three of their African Servals had run off after a powerful windstorm toppled a tree onto their enclosure.

Most of the center’s enclosures suffered damage from the wind storm, but the worst was the African Serval enclosure.

Two of the three servals were later recovered safely. A third, an adult female, remained missing for weeks despite ongoing efforts to locate her.

The center shared in an updated social media post that the final missing cat was hit by a vehicle and died.

The post read in part:

“It is with heartbreaking sadness that we report the final cat was hit by a car this past evening. She was very much loved and will be deeply missed.

Thank you to everyone for your help. To the dozens of people that joined the searches, to the over 100 calls reporting sightings, and to everyone in between. This is not the outcome we wanted but we take solace in the fact the other two are home and safe because of the dedication and compassion of this community.”
