Erie Police are investigating a homicide that occurred early this morning on the city’s west side. The victim, a young man, was shot and fatally wounded outside his home.
Police say they have significant evidence to process at two crime scenes—the location of the shooting and the victim’s car—but it is too soon to discuss a motive or suspect. Authorities are asking for the public’s help, particularly anyone with doorbell or security camera footage that could provide additional information.
The crime happened just after 1:00 a.m. outside a tan apartment house in the 500 block of West 9th Street. Investigators report that the victim, a 23-year-old man, came out of the house, got into an altercation with someone, and was shot in the leg.
The victim then got into his car and called relatives, saying he was driving himself to the hospital—but he never made it. Family members found the car and the victim about 20 minutes later in the 400 block of West 8th Street. They called for help, and police and rescuers rushed him to the hospital, but he did not survive.
Deputy Chief Lorah stated, “Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle running in the 400 block of West 8th. The driver was outside the vehicle and had suffered a gunshot wound to the legs. Officers immediately started lifesaving measures on this individual. Ultimately, he was transported by EmergyCare to Hamot Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 2:00 a.m.”
Police continue to search the home and crime scene. Anyone with security or doorbell camera footage that might help solve this crime is urged to contact Detective Sgt. Jason Russell, the lead investigator. Erie Police have solved five homicides in 2025 and are working for answers in this case as well.
