A man died shortly after stepping out of a vehicle that, police say, he crashed into a tree — along with several parked cars — in an incident that happened in the Crescentville neighborhood of North Philly early Tuesday.
According to police, the incident happened when a 53-year-old man, behind the wheel of a 2008 chevy pick-up truck, struck a tree while traveling eastbound, in the westbound lane, along the 4500 block of Castor Avenue at about 2:26 a.m. on Tuesday.
The vehicle, officials said, then left the scene of that crash and continued on, striking several parked vehicles along the 1200 block of Adams Avenue.
The driver drove away from that scene as well, before, police said, the truck finally came to a stop at the corner of Kinsey and Tackawanna streets.
After coming to a stop, police said that witnesses claimed the driver exited the vehicle and “appeared to attempt to walk away” before he collapsed and fell unconscious in the roadway.
First responders to the scene took the driver to a nearby hospital where, officials said, he was pronounced at about 3:26 a.m.
An investigation into this crash is ongoing, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information on this incident to contact the Philadelphia Police Department’s Crash Investigation Division at 215-685-3181.
