SPRING TWP., Pa. – The first snowstorm of the season hit fast and kept public works crews busy.
Spring Township Public Works Director Craig Conrad said the day started early.
“I think things went really well,” he said. “We had 17 trucks out at 5 a.m. this morning. We had 3,000 tons of salt in stock, ready to roll.”
In Spring Township, crews salted early, then pivoted when that late-morning burst covered everything again.
“We actually ended up going out with the plows, and we’re finishing up right now,” Conrad said.
But the real challenge may come overnight, when temperatures drop into the mid-20s.
“They’re calling for temps in the mid-20s tonight, so anything that might be icy or water running over could potentially freeze up,” Conrad said.
Crews will be back out around 4 a.m. Wednesday, checking trouble spots before work traffic, and school buses, hit the roads. That’s 17 trucks, 23 workers, and about 120 miles of township roads.
Conrad said the advice for drivers stays simple: “As always, slow down, take your time, make sure there’s room between you and the person in front of you, give yourself time to react, and the main thing, take your time.”
