PITTSTON TWP. — Carl Beardsley, executive director at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, has taken a sabbatical leave of absence, the airport’s co-solicitor said on Tuesday.
”Mr. Beardsley is off on a sabbatical leave from his position as executive director of the airport,” said Donald J. Frederickson, Jr., Esquire, the Lackawanna County General Counsel and airport solicitor. “In the interim, the Deputy Director, BJ Teichman, is filling the role as acting director in Carl’s absence. Mr. Beardsley is expected to return to the airport in the near future. We cannot make any further comment on his leave because of personnel and HIPPA restrictions.”
In November 2014, the Bi-County Airport Board hired Beardsley, who came from Johnson City, N.Y., to replace Barry Centini, who retired.
Beardsley had been commissioner of aviation for the Broome County Department of Aviation, which operates the Greater Binghamton Airport in Johnson City. His starting salary was listed as $115,000 a year under a three-year contract that the board approved.
In recent years, Beardsley has brought additional flights to the local airport and new carriers, such as Breeze Airways, with direct flights to Orlando, Fla.
