The Pennsylvania Game Commission says it’s seeking tips in the illegal killing of a white-tailed deer in Northampton County.

A post on the commission’s Operation Game Thief Facebook page says the deer was shot with a firearm from an ATV using a spotlight.

The incident occurred, and the deer was found, along Cider Press Road near Williams Township Elementary School in Williams Township, according to the post.

A state game warden’s investigation suggests two ATVs were observed driving and shooting at deer on the school property about 3 a.m. Sunday.

Pennsylvania’s regular firearms season for whitetails opened Saturday. Legal hunting hours for all small and big game are limited to a half-hour before sunrise to a half-hour after sunset.

The incident also occurred within safety zones of the school and numerous homes, investigators said.

“Video footage obtained shows the suspects and their ATVs driving, spotlighting, and shooting at deer, but positive identification cannot be made from the videos,” the post states.

The Game Commission asked anyone with information related to the incident to report it to the Southeast Region Office at 833-742-4868 (833-PGC-HUNT), the Operation Game Thief Hotline at 888-742-8001 (888-PGC-8001) or online at bit.ly/PGCOGT.
