READING, Pa. – Reading Area Community College (RACC) bought a landmark building in downtown Reading.

The school purchased the standout brick building at South Second and Penn Streets, right at the base of the Penn Street Bridge.

School officials say they plan to expand academic programming, but they aren’t sure just yet what programs will be offered at the site.

A real estate listing says the building dates back to 1896, when it was built as the Keystone Firehouse.

It was updated in 1986.
