Crews contained a kitchen fire at a Spring Township home Thursday night. Initial calls at about 6 p.m. reported a kitchen fire with smoke coming from a house on the 2000 block of Highland Street, near the intersection with Intervilla Avenue.

Crews on location reported heavy smoke pouring from the front door and flames in the kitchen. A line was deployed using a hydrant in front of the building. Those in the home were advised to evacuate, according to emergency reports.

The fire was reportedly knocked down within minutes.

Crews contained smoldering remains and smoke from the second floor and attic area and the fire was placed under control at about 6:20 p.m.
