The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins wrapped up another winning week Saturday night on the road.
After spotting Hershey a one-goal lead, the Penguins scored four unanswered goals to pick up a 4-1 win over the Bears at the Giant Center. The Pens lead the season series with their in-state rival, 2-1, avenging a four-goal setback last weekend in Hershey.
The win keeps Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (17-5-1) in first place by one point over Providence, while Hershey (11-8-1) drops out of the fourth spot in the Atlantic Division, now trailing Charlotte by one point.
Brett Leason scored his second goal of the year for Hershey in the first period.
Valtteri Puustinen knotted it at 1 with a second-period goal before the Penguins exploded in the third.
Puustinen’s second goal 58 seconds into the period was the game-winner off assists from Phil Tomasino and Danton Heinen, Gabe Klassen gave his team a two-goal lead at 2:11 and Aidan McDonough’s power-play goal at 11:57 made it a three-goal edge.
Joel Blomqvist got the start in goal, and stopped 27 of 28 shots.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has three games next week, starting Wednesday in Hartford. The team then returns to the Mohegan Arena for the weekend, hosting Providence on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. and Charlotte on Sunday at 3:05 p.m.
