ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Five families were displaced Saturday after five homes caught fire in Allentown, according to a news release from a city fire captain.

The three-alarm fire started around 9:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Allen Street, according to Captain Jon Hammel.

The American Red Cross assisted 15 adults and eight children. They stayed in a LANTA bus to keep warm, the release says.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the city fire marshal division.

The streets department assisted fire police with barricades. Workers also brought salt to thaw fast-forming ice around the fire trucks.

The city fire department thanked paramedics, police, neighboring fire departments and community partners for their help.
