SCRANTON, Pa. — The Scranton Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its K-9 officers.

Gunner, a retired K-9 Officer who served from 2012 to 2023, passed away Monday morning in the arms of his handler, Officer Tallo, according to the department.

Gunner was trained in criminal apprehension and narcotics and kept the community safe through a series of accomplishments, including assisting in the capture of three fugitives, tracking a fugitive for two miles, and locating over $1 million in drug seizures.

The department says Gunner was known throughout Lackawanna County as an immeasurable asset and will be deeply missed.
