WINDSOR TOWNSHIP — Engineered Materials Solutions has announced it is permanently closing its northern Berks County location and will lay off its staff of 58, starting in January.
Engineered Materials Solutions, 600 Valley Road in Windsor Township, has filed a WARN notice with the state department of Labor and Industry — notifying officials of its intent.
The layoffs are expected to begin “on or about” January 2026, and will be finalized by the end of October, according to the notice.
According to a letter from CEO Paul Duffy, Engineered Materials Solutions “will be shutting down, ceasing operations and permanently terminating all of our employees” at the Berks facility.
According to Duffy’s letter, dated Nov. 14 — each employee subject to the layoff will receive regular pay and benefits through their termination date.
The WARN Act requires employees to give a 60-day notice before closing plants or conducting mass layoffs, according to the Department of Labor & Industry’s WARN notification website.
Engineered Materials Solutions’ Berks facility was formerly the headquarters for Hood & Co. and was acquired by Engineered Materials Solutions in 2008. The location fabricates and assembles Thermostatic Bimetal parts for electrical, automotive and industrial applications, according to information on the company’s website.
The Berks location is one of five company locations for Engineered Materials Solutions, which is headquartered in Attleboro, Mass. Additional locations include Baoying, China; Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Shanghai, China. Engineered Materials Solutions is part of the Wickeder Group.
