SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A new development in South Scranton aimed at increasing lower income housing broke ground earlier today.
Hilltop Heights is the name of the new 36 housing unit community being developed by Quandel construction. Spread over seven acres on Saginaw Street, the development will feature three buildings holding the homes, each unit with their own kitchen, living rooms, and in unit washer and dryers with a fourth building being for community resources. The developers say it will fill a void for affordable housing that is desperately needed.
“The city and the county has really stepped up to provide this opportunity for these families, and we at Quandel are very proud to be working with county commissioners, the mayor’s office, the state senator’s office, all the leaders of this community have come together to make this project a reality,” said Chris Doherty, Quandel Construction’s director of business development.
At a ceremony today the company officially broke ground – and snow – to start the 15-month long construction project. Starting next year interested families can reach out and reserve a space.
