BERN TWP., Pa. – The group behind the preservation of a piece of local history is thanking the Berks County Commissioners for their continued support.
The Society for the Preservation of the Gruber Wagon Works held a check presentation today.
Each year, the group raises money to help maintain the 1880s manufactory in Bern Township.
This year’s check totals nearly $27,000.
“The idea was to make sure that there’s enough funding that we can help with that to keep some of the pressure off the taxpayers for maintaining the facility,” said Barry L. Kauffman, executive director of the Society for the Preservation of the Gruber Wagon Works.
County officials say the Wagon Works is one of the most complete examples of an integrated rural manufactory in the nation.
