Six museums and historical organizations in Berks County have been awarded state grants to support general operations.

The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission announced Friday that it has awarded nearly $4 million in cultural and historical support grants to 177 eligible museums and official county historical societies from 59 Pennsylvania counties.

The following in Berks received funding:

• The Colebrookdale Railroad Preservation Trust, $40,000

• The Foundation for the Reading Public Museum, $40,000

• Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, $40,000

• The Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, $30,000

• The Historical Society of Berks County, $25,000

• The Gen. Carl Spaatz Regional USAAC Museum — $6,200

Officials said the goal of the grant program is to strengthen Pennsylvania’s museum community by supporting the general operations of eligible museums and official county historical societies that are not supported by other state agency funding programs.
