Gary T. Layland
OBITUARY
Gary T. Layland, 75, a resident of the Clarks Summit Senior Living, died on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, surrounded by his family.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William John Vincent and Marion Jenkins Layland. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, and Penn State University. He was employed by Clarks Summit State Hospital for 35 years prior to retirement. He was a former member of the Elm Park United Methodist Church, Scranton, prior to its closing, and he served with the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
Gary was a loving father, grandfather, and brother who was a sports enthusiast his entire life. He was a diehard fan of the New York Yankees, Penn State Football, North Carolina Basketball, and a sports card collector who enjoyed attending card shows. He will be deeply missed by his family.
Surviving is a daughter, Renee Buchinski, Dickson City; sons, Brian Layland, and wife, Michelle, Covington Twp., and Charles Layland, Scranton; grandsons, Evan, Elliot and Jacob Layland; sisters, Vinessa Schultz, and husband, Chester, Olyphant, and Bonnie Layland; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Layland, while serving with the US Navy, and son-in-law, Richard Buchinski.
Family and friends may call on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, from 2 to 4 p.m. A celebration of Gary’s life will take place 12 noon on Monday, December 22, 2025 at the United Baptist Church, 213 S.
