The winter storm heading toward the Delaware Valley could now drop more than 5 inches of snow on some parts of the region Saturday night into Sunday morning, according to the latest forecasts.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect for much of the area, including Philadelphia, Montgomery and Bucks counties, from 7 p.m. Saturday until 1 p.m. on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Total snow accumulations between 3 and 5 inches are expected in the region, forecasters said; however, more than 5 inches could fall in some areas. Snowfall rates of 1 inch per hour are also possible.

“(The) heaviest totals (are expected) along I-95 and locations just southeast of I-95 in southern New Jersey and northern Delmarva,” the National Weather Service said.

For the Philly region, precipitation will likely start as light rain before turning to snow around 11 p.m. Saturday. In Bucks and Montgomery counties, snow is expected to start between 9 and 10 p.m. Snowfall intensity may also increase for a time early Sunday morning, forecasters said.

On Sunday, temperatures are expected to drop with highs in the lower 30s and lows down into the teens. The coldest wind chills are expected to settle over the region Sunday night into Monday morning, forecasters said.

“Hypothermia or frostbite could occur with prolonged exposure and lack of proper clothing. Some impacts to infrastructure are possible,” the National Weather Service stated. “Wind chills (will be) in the single digits at night.”
