ERIE — Corry’s JV girls basketball team was back in action Thursday night at Cathedral Prep for a showdown with the Ramblers. The Beavers had a tough time generating offense and came up short 14-52.
Corry kept Prep’s offense in check for most of the first quarter. They reached the final minute of the period only down five (3-8) before the Rambler’s offense scored six unanswered at the end and put the Beavers in an early double digit hole 3-14.
Prep’s offense scored more consistently in the second quarter. They put up 17 points while the Beavers were held to four. Corry went into the locker room down 7-31 at the half.
The Beavers came out strong defensively in quarter three. They held the Ramblers scoreless for the first two and a half minutes of play until Prep’s offense came back to life. During that time, the Beavers continued to struggle on offense, with their deficit growing even further to 11-45 headed into the fourth.
Corry’s defense clamped down in the fourth and held Prep to single digits for the first time. Offensively, the Beavers still struggled to break through Prep’s constant pressure and put up points. Corry came up short in the end 14-52.
Maci Kemp led the Beavers in scoring with seven points. Alivia Swan contributed with four points and Madi Leofsky had three.
Defensively, Mikayla Comitz led in steals with three. Kemp and Leofsky each finished with two steals.
The Lady Beavers return home to the East Gym on Monday to take on Erie High. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
