The vandalism at Allentown’s Lights in the Parkway that prompted its closure over the weekend is estimated to be over $50,000, according to officials.

City spokesperson Genesis Ortega said the damage caused by the vandalism — which included bent light poles and posts, crushed light bulbs and portable restrooms pushed into a creek — is likely closer to $100,000.

The damage prompted the city to close the event Sunday, however it will reopen Monday for its walkthrough event, Ortega said. She said Monday morning that staff is currently working to clean up and rearrange the displays.

It has not yet been determined when the display will reopen for vehicles.

Additional information is expected to be released later Monday.

Mayor Matt Tuerk, in a video posted on social media Sunday, said 90% of the lights are in “great shape,” and said it would be expensive to repair and replace the lights. Allentown Parknership has started a fundraising campaign to help with the repairs.

Those who wish to donate may do so here, givebutter.com/25lights.

Allentown police are investigating the vandalism.
