ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The American Red Cross Pennsylvania Rivers Chapter has moved its shelter for the residents displaced by Saturday’s apartment building fire along Maryland Circle in Whitehall Township.

The Red Cross emergency shelter was relocated to Berrier Hall at Lehigh Carbon Community College (4525 Education Park Dr., Schnecksville, PA 18078), according to a news release from the organization.

The Red Cross says the previous shelter located at Whitehall High School closed to allow the school to resume normal operations.

As of Sunday morning, 19 people stayed overnight in the Red Cross shelter. Anyone in need of Red Cross assistance should call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Flames could be seen shooting out of some of the windows and balconies in Whitehall Township as fire fighters tried to knock the fire down Saturday.

It’s unclear at this time what sparked the fire.
