SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Scranton police are investigating the death of a 16-year-old boy who was fatally shot Friday evening in the city’s west side.

Officers were called to 1337 Bryn Mawr Street on December 12 for a report of a shooting and found the teen suffering from a gunshot wound. Patrol officers immediately began emergency care before the victim was taken to Geisinger Community Medical Center, where he later died.

Authorities identified the deceased teen as Dylan Smith of Taylor.

According to detectives, the gun involved in the shooting had been reported stolen about two weeks earlier in Archbald Borough. Police interviewed three juveniles the night of the incident and took one of them into custody on a felony charge of possessing a firearm as a minor.

Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated case and say there is no danger to the public. Additional details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
