An open house is being held this week about a 2028 road project in a York County borough.
The meeting about the reconstruction of the intersection of Route 616 and Route 3024 in New Salem will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at St. Jacobs UCC, 100 E. George St.
This is the second open house about the project. The first was held this past summer.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is offering a public comment period from Dec. 15 through Jan. 17, 2026. An online plan is available for review.
“The purpose of this project is to reduce congestion at the existing intersection due to the signal timing. This project will realign Route 3024 (George Street) through the intersection to increase the efficiency of the signal timing at the intersection.
“Realignment of the roadway will allow for a two-phase signal to replace the existing three-phase signal. The project will include new ADA compliant sidewalks and ramps within the intersection,” PennDOT said in a news release.
PennDOT said the project will be constructed in seven stages to minimize impact from spring to fall 2028 with a detour for Route 3024 (George Street). The estimated cost is $1,979,000.
