Lawrence “Larry” J. Steiner, 85, of Scranton, ND, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025 at the West River Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.
Mass of Christian Burial for Larry will be on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church beginning at 10:00 am. Fr. Greg Hilzendeger will Celebrate the Mass with burial to follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Scranton, ND.  There will be a Rosary prayed for Larry on Friday, December 19, 2025 at the Sacred Heart Church beginning at 7:00pm. Visitation for Larry will be on Friday, December 19, 2025 from 12-4 at the Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Home Chapel and resume from 5-9 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Larry was born April 11, 1940, in Longview, Washington, to Leonard and Rose (Messmer) Steiner. He was raised in Scranton and graduated from Scranton High School in 1958. On October 25, 1961, he married Kathy Cook in Scranton, where they made their home. Larry worked as a carpenter with his partner Gary, owning S&S Construction, a farmer, and later as a coal miner at Knife River until his retirement in 1995. He served his country in the United States military and was a devout Catholic, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Larry spent his retirement doing what he loved – cutting hay with his friend Doug, golfing, camping and fishing. Larry  was known for finding practical solutions to most problems, often with few tools and a lot of creativity.Â
Larry is survived by his wife, Kathy Steiner, Scranton, ND; his children, Debbie Schields (Jon), Dodge, ND & Scott Steiner, Scranton, ND; his siblings Rita (Tom) MacFarlane, Milwaukie, OR, Kenneth (Rita) Steiner, Bowman, ND, Dean (Kathy) Steiner, St. Peter, MN; his grandchildren, Jessica (Michael) Unruh  Bell, Beulah, ND, Lane (Sadie) Schields, Dodge, ND, Shelby (Ian) Arendt, Mandan, ND, Kayelyn (Spencer) Whitted, Spearfish, SD, Evan (Paige) Steiner, Yankton, SD, & Zach Wilson, Spearfish, SD; and his great-grandchildren, Ella, Eva, Lucy, Lily, Sophia, Piper, Aleah, Owen, Kynlee & Willa; extra-special nieces, nephews, many extended family members, neighbors and very dear friends.
