ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Some 4th graders in Allentown were surprised this week when they were visited by a city firefighter.

The visit to Ms. Stephanie Marks’ class at Dodd Elementary School was one of the first in the district’s “Tools of the Trade” speaker series.

Capt. Jonathan Hammel told captivating stories of crawling through fire and rescuing crash victims. He even took some tough questions in a “Q&A” session.

The teachers say there is a great benefit to these talks.

“This is a great class. They are super eager to learn. They want to know more beyond the textbooks they are reading, so bringing careers to them is exactly what this class is eager for,” Ms. Marks said.

The Speaker Series will expose students to a wide range of careers long before they enter High School.

The program continues into January.
