Chase Rosenkrans hit the game-winning shot with 1.4 seconds left in overtime Wednesday to lift host Lakeland to a 47-45 victory over West Scranton in a nonleague boys basketball matchup.
Rosenkrans finished with 13 points for the No. 10 Chiefs (4-2), who outscored West Scranton in the extra session, 7-5. Cole Tonkin also scored 13 points, including four 3-pointers, and David Naniewicz added 10 points.
Nate Schimelfenig hit five 3-pointers and finished with 23 points for the Invaders (3-5), who rallied from a three-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Cayden Farr scored with 4.5 seconds left in regulation to tie the game, 40-40, and force overtime.
Girls basketball
Chloe Mamera scored 19 points and Eva Kaszuba added 18 to lead No. 2 Scranton Prep to a 58-37 win over No. 7 Delaware Valley on Wednesday in the Lackawanna Division I girls basketball opener.
Kaszuba got Scranton Prep (3-1 overall, 1-0 in division) off to a fast start with eight points in the first quarter, and followed with 10 in the second to spark the Classics to a big lead.
Ava Fenton also fueled the first-half surge with 12 of her 14 points for Scranton Prep.
Mamera took over in the second half and scored 13 points as the Classics handed Delaware Valley its first loss of the season.
Amanda Argona led Delaware Valley (5-1, 0-1) with 17 points. She had 13 in the second half. Brianna Waldron added 10 points for the Lady Warriors.
