ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A person is dead, and two others are hurt, after a shooting at a bar in Allentown early Friday morning.

Officers responded to the center at the 1300 block of Hanover Avenue for a reported shooting around 1:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Allentown Police Department. A photo from the scene showed police tape set up outside Big Woody’s Sports Bar & Restaurant.

Officers found two victims with gunshot wounds, city police said.

Allentown police said initial information revealed that a fight precipitated the shooting.

Officers gave first aid to the victims, who were then taken to an area hospital for treatment. One victim later died, according to the news release.

The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office said in a news release the victim was a 34-year-old Allentown man. The man has been positively identified, and the family and next of kin have been notified; his identity is being withheld at this time to allow the family to grieve privately, the coroner’s office said.

The man’s identity is anticipated to be released Friday afternoon, the coroner’s office said in its news release.

The coroner’s office said it ruled the manner of death as a homicide.

City police said the other victim is expected to survive his injuries, according to the news release. A short while later, an additional victim from the shooting arrived at a nearby hospital and is being treated, city police said.

He is expected to survive.

Police said the investigation is active and ongoing, and there is no danger to the community at this time.

Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk addressed the shooting in a statement posted on Instagram: “I am aware of the tragic incident overnight, and my heart is with the families affected, especially during the holiday season. I urge our community to act with wisdom and compassion and to reject violence. This was an isolated incident, now under investigation by the Allentown Police Department, and it does not define Allentown.”

The Allentown Police, Lehigh County DA’s Office, Lehigh County Homicide Task Force, and the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office are investigating.
