The Transportation Security Administration said the last day of November was the busiest day in its history, as it processed more than 3.1 million passengers nationwide returning home from the long Thanksgiving weekend.

Lehigh Valley International Airport certainly contributed to that record. It reported that 86,801 passengers used the airport in Hanover Township, Lehigh County in November, an 8.8% increase over the year and the highest activity for that month since 2004.

“Travel industry forecasts pointed to one of the busiest holiday seasons on record at airports nationwide,” said Tom Stoudt, executive director of the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority. “We’ve experienced this firsthand with the steady rise in passenger activity at ABE.”

As for the airlines serving LVIA, Allegiant jumped 20.5% and American Airlines increased 6.5%. Meanwhile, Delta declined 3.9% and United dropped 23.3%.

With the holiday season picking up, LVIA said it processed more than 22 million pounds of air cargo during November, a 4.4% increase from the previous year.
