ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Former Allentown Police officer Jason Krasley and current officer Evan Weaver were silent as they left the Lehigh County Courthouse following a status conference on Monday.

The trial was supposed to begin next month, but instead the judge scheduled another hearing for February after the defense raised concerns about not having enough time to file pretrial motions.

“We believe there’s some speedy trial issues in this case. We’re still getting discovery. We don’t have complete discovery yet, we have most of it but not all of it,” said John Waldron, who is one of the attorneys representing Evan Weaver.

Weaver and Krasley face rape and other charges related to alleged sex crimes involving prostitutes while they were on the police department’s Vice Squad.

“I think we’re going to be filing motions regarding a dismissal regarding the speedy trial. A motion on dismissal for not meeting speedy trial deadlines in this case regarding the Commonwealth,” said Waldron.

It was the first time the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office appeared in the courtroom after taking this case from the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.

The Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office previously said in a statement that there was a potential conflict of interest in its office and that when those issues arise, in full transparency, it asks an outside agency to determine if a conflict of interest exists.

A hearing has been scheduled for February 20th.

Krasley and Weaver remain out on bail.

Krasley’s attorney declined to comment outside of what was said in the courtroom.

69 News reached out to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office for comment on Monday’s status conference and it said it has nothing to offer at this time.
