CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– The Shapiro Administration announced a federally funded electric vehicle charging station opened on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Cumberland County.

According to the Shapiro Administration, the new station was built using funds from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program and is the first of multiple stations to open.

The new station is located at the Blue Mountain Service Plaza at Exit 202 westbound on the PA Turnpike, the Shapiro Administration said.

A second station is set to open next week at New Stanton, located at Exit 77 westbound.

“We are excited to continue offering more options for customers who want accessible, on-route EV charging,” said PA Turnpike CEO Mark Compton. “Our EV charging program offers reliable and convenient options along our roadway, improving customer experience while also reflecting our long-term commitment to being a good neighbor across the Commonwealth. Beyond meeting customer demand, supporting electric vehicle adoption enhances infrastructure resilience, supports renewable energy goals and reduces vehicle emissions.”

The Shapiro Administration said the new stations are part of the Turnpike’s EV charging initiative, a partnership with Applegreen Electric.

The program aims to add 80 stations at all 17 service plazas by the end of 2027.
