Tigers post successful weekend at Erie Challenge

North Allegheny traveled north to Erie, PA for the weekend to take part in the Erie Challenge at Erie McDowell High School and Cathedral Prep High School. The boys posted a 3-0 record to stay undefeated in conference play while the girls were just as successful going 2-0 over the weekend running their winning streak up to five games.

Boys

The NA boys opened the weekend with a 6-5 win over previously undefeated La Salle. Senior Logan Purnell and sophomore Filip Malezanov each led the Tigers offense with two goals. Captain Michael Stefanko had eight saves in net.

In game two, North Allegheny defeated Pennridge, 14-11. Tabari Morgan and Callan Bunger each had six goals in the match. Mason Shantz and  Senior Philip Liulias picked up four steals defensively. He also added a goal on the offensive end. Stefanko made six saves while freshman Gannon Brooks had two.

In the boys final game, they took down Upper Perk by a score of 15-7. Bunger and Liulas each got on the score sheet five times.  Morgan led NA defensively with four steals and had three goals. Malezanov, Max LaFuria and Noah Cochrane also had markers. Stefanko did not allow a goal and only had to make one save. Brooks had six saves in relief.

Girls

The NA girls started the weekend with a 10-7 victory over Pennridge. Captain Bella Spino was the leader offensively with eightFemale water polo players in action during a match, focusing on competition and teamwork in the pool. goals. She also had nine steals. Mikaela Dassanaike and Sania Bedi each tallied a goal while Bedi had a team-high six assists. Katherine Vales made six saves in net.

The Tigers won their second game, 11-9 over Upper Perk. Spino led the charge with another eight goals and five more steals. Dassanaike had two goals to go along with four assists and three steals. Bedi helped with three steals and a goal. Vales made 12 saves.

The North Allegheny boys improve to 14-1 overall while the NA girls are now 6-7. The Tigers return to action next weekend when they travel to Cumberland Valley High School for the Screaming Eagle Tournament.
