A potential $1.7 billion Powerball jackpot is exciting hopefuls, sparking dreams of a life-changing Christmas surprise.

THROOP, Pa. — Someone might wake up on Christmas morning $1.7 billion richer.

The Powerball jackpot is climbing once again, after no one matched all the numbers in Monday night’s drawing.

Newswatch 16 stopped by Juniors Convenience in Throop, the store sold a ticket matching four of the five white balls plus the Powerball earlier this week, earning a lucky lottery winner a whopping $100,000.

Players here are hoping lightning strikes twice.

Dave Jones of Scranton says, “Well, because of the price. How high the price is. Should be enough to retire.”

You can watch the Powerball drawing on WNEP ahead of the Newswatch before Christmas tonight at 11 p.m.
