On Thursday at 12:28 p.m. an ice storm warning was released by the National Weather Service valid from Friday 10 a.m. until Saturday 1 a.m. for Southern Erie and Crawford County.
The weather service says, “Significant icing expected. Total ice accumulations between one tenth and three tenths of an inch.”
“Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes,” says the weather service. “The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission strongly encourage motorists to heed all travel restrictions and delay unnecessary travel. Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in road conditions. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.”
