FirstEnergy and Penelec said they are ready to tackle power outages from the icy weather, according to a statement issued to Erie News Now.

Crews are stationed across the region, with extra support on standby to restore service quickly, a representative said. The companies are working closely with emergency officials to coordinate efforts.

Customers are urged to prepare by charging devices; stocking flashlights, batteries, and ready-to-eat food; and using candles cautiously. They remind people to never use gas stoves or kerosene heaters for heat, and store water if you rely on a well. For generator use, ensure professional installation and disconnect your home’s main power first.

Penelec also reminds you to stay far from downed power lines and report them to 9-1-1 immediately. If your power goes out, report it by calling 1-888-LIGHTSS or visiting penelec.com. Customer reports help crews locate and fix issues faster, according to the companies.
