PERRY TWP., Pa.- Friday brought a post-holiday burst of wintry weather. Folks were out trying to make sure they have what they need when the storm rolls through.
“Most everybody’s coming for rock salt, because we have plenty of it this year as opposed to last year and ice melt,” says Jason Flower with Kuzan’s Hardware near Shoemakersville.
He says last year, the salt supply was a concern here and a lot of other places that ran out before winter was over. Flower says this year, the store ordered heavier than normal.
“We sell mostly by the bag, but yet we do also offer pallet pricing for quantity of rock salt,” says Flower. “We’ve already gone through, I think four pallets sold individually by the bag, which there’s 49 on each, so we’ve sold quite a few already today.”
Roberto Naranjo has a small restaurant on 183. He’s not sure if he’ll be able to open Saturday morning, but he’s buying supplies, nonetheless.
“I’ll take all the stuff just in case I open,” he says.
PennDOT crews spent the early part of Friday before the storm pre-treating roads, focusing on interstates and major roads for travelers. It says its crews and contractors will be out overnight clearing and treating roads.
