The Lower Saucon Police Department now offers Project Lifesaver, a search and rescue program designed to quickly locate adults and children who are prone to wandering due to cognitive conditions.

The program uses radio technology to track participants who wear small transmitters on their wrists or ankles. Each transmitter emits an individualized frequency signal that allows trained emergency responders to locate missing individuals.

When a caregiver reports a participant missing, specially trained search and rescue teams respond and use the person’s unique frequency to pinpoint their location. Recovery times for agencies using Project Lifesaver average 30 minutes, which represents a 95% reduction compared to standard search operations.

The program operates internationally through public safety agencies and combines locating technology with specialized training that teaches first responders about cognitive conditions and how to approach individuals once they are found.

Residents interested in enrolling can contact the Bethlehem Health Bureau at 610-865-7083 or Project Lifesaver coordinators Sgt. Kyle Haggerty or Sgt. Tom Louder at 610-317-6110. The program is offered at no cost to participants.
