READING, Pa. – Berks County District Attorney John Adams said a shooting happened at a home on the 400 block of South 9th Street in Reading around 2 a.m. on Monday.
“The individual who’s been identified as the shooter actually approached a police officer and told the police officer that he just shot someone,” said Adams.
Adams said the man indicated the person he shot may have been trying to break into the home.
Police could be seen in the area for hours and the district attorney said the man was taken into custody.
“He’s presently at City Hall and the Reading Police have applied for and have gotten a search warrant to search where the shooting took place,” said Adams.
Adams said the man who shot the person legally owned the gun.
The DA said investigators are looking into whether the shooting was self-defense.
“We’ll be making a decision based upon the evidence that is gathered whether or not criminal charges are appropriate and at this point, that remains up in the air,” said Adams.
The identity of the person who was killed has not yet been released.
