Three more Lackawanna League wrestlers reached the 100-win plateau.
Abington Heights’ Mason Whitney, Blue Ridge’s Brice Woodruff and Wallenpaupack’s Gabe Caufield surpassed the milestone at holiday tournaments Tuesday.
Whitney went 4-2 with a pin, two technical falls and a decision during the two-day Powerade tournament at Canon-McMillan High School and captured seventh place at 133 pounds. His milestone win came by pin against Montoursville’s Aristotelis Bobotas on Tuesday.
The Abington Heights junior is a two-time state medalist (seventh, eighth), two-time Times-Tribune All-Region selection and a District 2 Class 3A champion. He is 18-2 this season, 101-17 in his career and ranks sixth in the state according to PA Power Wrestling.
Woodruff (132) went 3-2, including three decisions, to take seventh at the Windsor Christmas Tournament at Windsor High School (N.Y.). The Blue Ridge senior secured a 10-7 decision over Spencer Van Etten’s Rodney Vaow in the seventh-place match for his 100th victory.
Ranked 22nd in the state, he captured a District 2 Class 2A title and Northeast Regional fourth last season to qualify for states. He is 16-4 this season and 100-39 in his career.
Caufield (172) went 6-2 with four pins, a major decision and a decision to take third at the Jim Thorpe Christmas Tournament at Jim Thorpe High School. He defeated Methacton’s Jeremiah Atkins, 11-4, in the third-place match for his 100th win.
The Wallenpaupack senior is ranked 26th in the state, is 16-3 on the season and 100-47 in his career.
Jim Thorpe Christmas Tournament
Tristan Braxton, ranked 17th in the state, went 6-0 with three pins and three major decisions to capture the 160-pound title and lead Wallenpaupack to the Jim Thorpe Christmas Tournament crown.
Ayden Blaut (127) placed second, Gio Lomonaco (133) and Caufield finished third, Jake Rafferty (189) took sixth and Declan Brown (121) secured seventh, as the Buckhorns compiled 196.5 points to top second-place North Schuylkill by 12 and a half points.
Tywone Giles (152) went 5-1, including four pins and a decision, to place second, as Valley View finished 19th.
Tony Iasiello Christmas City Tournament
Western Wayne’s Paul Borowski had three pins and a major decision to capture the 285-pound title at the Tony Iasiello Christmas City Tournament at Bethlehem Catholic, as the Wildcats placed ninth.
Gavin Morcom (160) placed second, Hunter Rodger (152) finished third and R.J. Walton (133) took sixth for Western Wayne.
Jake Barrett (139) and Joseph Whelan (145) each placed sixth for Scranton Prep, which placed 11th.
Windsor Christmas Tournament
Blue Ridge’s Ryder Hobart (190) placed sixth, as the Raiders finished 29th at the Windsor Christmas Tournament.
Woodruff and Zachary Krupovich (175) each placed seventh for Blue Ridge.
Frank Wadas Memorial Tournament
North Pocono’s Antonio Cintron (145) finished fourth, Shane Kearney (127), Josef Wolff (189) and Joshua Magnotta (215) placed fifth, Nick Rought (145) took sixth, Caden Hall (114) and Ryan Craven (127) secured seventh and Merrick Young (139) and Anthony Bardzilouskas (285) placed eighth, as the Trojans finished eighth at the Frank Wadas Memorial Tournament at Tunkhannock High School.
Montrose’s Wyatt Steele (152) secured third, Sawyer Brander (107) took fifth, Corey Anderson (215) finished sixth and Delos Stone (133), Carl Nolt (139) and William Fraiser Jr. (285) each placed seventh, as the Meteors finished ninth.
Scranton’s Drew Leonori (133) and Austin Gottstein (285) each finished second, Josh Dominguez (121) placed fourth and Ismael Salazar (145) took fifth to lead the Knights to a 10th-place finish.
Lackawanna Trail’s Matthew Shafer (114) finished second, Riley Borruso (133) and Joshua Fowler (139) placed third, Cidney Schaffer (107) took sixth and Joseph Thomas (133) secured eighth, as the Lions finished 12th.
Elk Lake’s Ethan Smith (285) placed third, Nathaniel Thurman (285) and Colby Ruark (215) finished fourth and Ben Hillier (127) took sixth, as the Warriors finished 14th.
Mountain View finished 16th, led by ninth-place finishes from Ada Chamberlain (127) and Trey Hummel (172).
