A restaurant that replaced an iconic breakfast and lunch spot in downtown Bethlehem has closed roughly 7 months after opening.
Bilal’s Breakfast & Sandwiches, which opened in the spot formerly occupied by Darto’s restaurant at 46 W. North St., permanently closed around mid-December, according to former manager Server Candir, who said restaurant owner Bilal Bozkoc confirmed the closure to her. During its operating hours Monday afternoon, the restaurant had a “Sorry We’re Closed” sign in the window.
Candir said she didn’t know for sure the reason for the closure, but she felt the restaurant didn’t have enough foot traffic.
The restaurant opened in May and served a similar breakfast menu as Darto’s, alongside Mediterranean-style dishes.
Darto’s closed in March after operating for more than 30 years. It opened in 1984 under the family of Mike and Mary Lou Dartouzos.
