Families in Pittsburgh celebrated New Year’s Eve early with kid-friendly events at the Children’s Museum and COhatch.

In Pittsburgh, families celebrated New Year’s Eve early with “Noon” Year’s Eve events at the Children’s Museum on the North Side and COhatch in the Southside, offering a variety of fun-filled activities for children.”Three, two, one, happy new year,” echoed through the venues as children and families enjoyed the festivities hours before the official start of 2026. The events, which began in the morning, featured crafts, face painting, glitter art and a children’s disco party with an energetic DJ.”We’ve got crafts, we got face painting, we got glitter art, we have this awesome DJ, a little kids disco. He’s throwing a disco party in the back,” said Claire Pro, director of SouthSide Kids.The Children’s Museum has hosted this tradition since its establishment on the North Side, drawing about a thousand visitors eager to join the early celebrations. Meanwhile, COhatch has been hosting the event for the past three years, organized by Southside Kids.”We’ve figured this is a need in our community. You can get your kids out the door and celebrate and be home in time for nap time,” said Pro.The events provided a way for children to participate in New Year’s festivities without staying up until midnight — a welcome option for parents and their little ones on a cold day.”I just appreciate that this has been here and that we’re able to come down here. This has been so fun,” said a parent attending the event.The celebrations offered a convenient alternative for families, allowing younger children to enjoy the excitement of New Year’s Eve during the day.”It makes it so convenient for parents who don’t want to stay up until midnight, but especially younger kids, so it’s nice to do something at noon. They get to celebrate and be a part of the festivities,” said another attendee.”It’s really nice to have something like this. It does well for families,” added another participant.The events, filled with music, arts and confetti, continued until noon, providing a joyful start to the new year for Pittsburgh’s families.
