RICHLAND TWP., Pa. – Emergency crews in Bucks County faced some scary moments Wednesday evening when an ambulance transporting a patient caught fire.

It happened just before 4:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of N. West End Boulevard (Route 309) in Richland Township.

Richland Township Fire & Rescue and West End Fire Company of Quakertown arrived to find a private transport ambulance fully engulphed, which crews quickly extinguished.

Fire officials say an onboard oxygen tank suffered a catastrophic failure during operations, causing an explosion.

The crew of the ambulance and patient safely evacuated prior to fire department’s arrival. No injuries were reported.
