SPRING TWP., Pa. – Fire officials say the weather made things difficult for crews fighting a fire that tore through a barn in Berks County Thursday morning.

Crews responded to the fire in Spring Township just after 7:30 a.m., Fire Chief Colin Hackman told 69 News.

Hackman said the barn was fully involved and collapsing when crews got there.

A goat died in the fire, he said. Two other goats and a mare that were in the barn were rescued, Hackman said.

The weather made fighting the fire difficult because the road was icy, and crews had to bring in a township road crew to salt the road, Hackman said.

The fire marshal is investigating.
