FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Authorities in Carbon County are investigating a fatal accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike involving a pedestrian.

Around 4 a.m. today, police responded to a collision in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike at mile marker 76.2 in Franklin Township. The location is just north of Exit #74 for Mahoning Valley.

The Carbon County Coroner’s Office was requested to the scene a short time later. Initial reports indicated a male pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

The individual was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities are not releasing their identity at this time. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Carbon County Coroner’s Office, Carbon County District Attorney’s Office and the Pennsylvania State Police – Pocono Station.
