The bicyclist who died after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday on a bustling Whitehall Township thoroughfare has been identified by authorities.

The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the deceased as 39-year-old Nickolas A. Siegfried, of Nazareth. Siegfried was pronounced dead just after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township.

An autopsy was completed Friday morning. Siegfried died from multiple blunt force trauma due to the collision and the manner was ruled accidental by Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio.

Whitehall police said the crash occurred about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday on MacArthur Road (Route 145) near Sutler Drive in the township.

It’s unclear what led up to the crash or if the offending driver stopped and is cooperating with police. Whitehall Police Chief Michael Marks and Pamela Lehman, spokeswoman for the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, couldn’t immediately be reached for more details Friday morning.

Wednesday’s accident shut down MacArthur Road, a multi-lane road, in both directions as law enforcement investigated at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office; Whitehall Police Department; and Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.
