MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Firefighters from multiple communities responded to a fully involved house fire early Saturday morning on Joyce Street in Moosic, according to officials.

The fire was reported before dawn on January 3, 2026, after Greenwood firefighters were initially dispatched for a call reporting a fire in a wooded area one street away. Within minutes, crews determined the flames were coming from a residence, and the call was upgraded to a working structure fire.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a two-and-a-half-story wood-frame home completely engulfed in flames. Despite the intensity of the fire, officials said the occupant was able to escape safely, and no injuries were reported.

Crews worked in frigid conditions, with temperatures hovering around 15 degrees, as they fought the blaze and worked to contain it.

Several departments assisted at the scene, including the Greenwood Fire Department, Old Forge Fire Department, Excelsior Hose Company No. 2 of Duryea, Avoca Fire Department, Taylor Fire Rescue, and Scranton firefighters.

The cause of the fire has not been released, and damage to the home was extensive. Fire officials continue to investigate the incident.
