Bishop Hannan scored just 10 points in the first half before Pat Grendel and Jerry Booths fueled a third-quarter run to lead the Golden Lancers to a 45-42 win over Dunmore in the Lackawanna League Southern Division boys basketball opener. Grendel scored six of his 15 points in the 14-2 run that gave Bishop Hannan a 29-23 lead with 2:20 left in the third quarter, while Booths scored seven of his 11 points and led the team with seven rebounds. Tim Blume added nine points and five assists for the Golden Lancers. Brian Costanzo scored 12 points, Kevin Walsh added 10 points and nine rebounds and Tom Mendola chipped in nine points and five assists for the Bucks. …  Bishop O’Hara rallied from a five-point deficit with seven minutes left to hand Abington Heights its first loss in nine games, 57-54, in a Lackawanna League Southern Division opener.  Al Callejas scored a game-high 23 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, for the Bruins. Mike Reno added 11 points and seven rebounds, while Jeff Chmil chipped in nine points for the winners. Mike Sadowski had 21 points for the Comets.

Old Forge’s Sara Fife scored eight of her 11 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lady Blue Devils to a 42-36 victory over Lackawanna Trail in a Lackawanna League II-III girls basketball crossover. Jennifer Mason added 10 points for Old Forge. Mari Dwyer led Lackawanna Trail with 13 points. …  Nathan Johnson had 31 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists, and Andrew Moody added 26 points with a career-high 10 rebounds as Triboro Christian remained undefeated with a 61-53 win over Freedom Village in a boys basketball game. …  With the game tied, Krystyn McIntyre hit a jumper with 11 seconds left, as Scranton Prep defeated Wallenpaupack, 46-44, in a Lackawanna League Division I girls basketball matchup. Kristen Folk scored 24 points to lead the Classics, Colleen McLane added 10 points and McIntyre finished with five. Olivia Kranich scored 11 points to lead the Lady Buckhorns. …  A.J. McKenna had 14 points and eight rebounds, and Scranton outdueled North Pocono, 59-56, in a Lackawanna League Division I boys basketball game. Joe Richards scored 15 points for the Trojans.

Elizabeth Yatko won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 backstroke to lead Scranton to a 90-83 win over Elk Lake in a Lackawanna League girls swim meet. Katie Naughton won the 50 free and was a member of two winning relays. Rebecca Sisson had two individual wins for Elk Lake. …  Alyssa Alfano scored 16 points and Lexi Walsh had 15 to lead Holy Cross to a 50-30 win over Riverside in a Lackawanna League Division III girls basketball game. Lauren Franklin added 11 points for the Lady Crusaders. Lizzie Spindler had 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Lady Vikes. …  Maddie Martin scored 14 points to lead Dunmore to a 55-33 victory over Lakeland in a Division III girls basketball game. Emily Sheehan and Victoria Toomey each had 10 points for the Lady Bucks. Kayla Agentowicz led the Lady Chiefs with 17 points. …  Zoe Zazzera and Anna Totsky each scored 12 points to lead Carbondale Area to a 53-48 win over Old Forge in a Division III girls basketball game. Kierstyn Breig had 22 points for the Lady Blue Devils, and Gabby Verespey added 13 points.
