John L. Serrian

OBITUARY

John L. Serrian, 89, of Orwigsburg passed away on Saturday, October 11th at the Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital in Orwigsburg.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late John and Mary Kozak Serrian.

John was a graduate of Scranton Tech High School and served as the Senior Class Vice President. He graduated with a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Scranton.

He served in the 109th Army National Guard Reserve. He was a proud (retired) employee of Dana Corporation, with almost 20 years serving as a Plant Superintendent or Plant Manager at various locations including Berwick, PA, Dry Ridge, KY, and Reading, PA.

He believed he never worked a day in his life because his work was his hobby, and he loved what he did. His past community and civic activities included being a member of the Daniel Boone School Board (Vice President) and a Little League Baseball coach for his sons’ teams.

John enjoyed spending time with his family most of all. His vacations included trips with Audrey to the Grand Canyon, to St. Petersburg, FL, and to Dude Ranches in New York. He especially enjoyed getting together with the entire family for celebrations over meals and trips to the Jersey Shore with his parents, sister and her family, his sons, and later with his sons’ families.

He was devoted to his wife Audrey, and she was steadfast by his side. He was extremely proud of his two sons and their families. He enjoyed lavishing his grandchildren with affection, advice, and stories of his life. In his own words, “I had a life that was full –no regrets.”

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his loving wife Audrey who passed away in July. He is also preceded in death by his sister Marie Mercanti and an infant daughter.

John is survived by Sons John L. Serrian, Jr MD, husband to Jeane of Reading PA, and Mark G Serrian, husband to Krista of Pottsville PA. There are 3 grandchildren: Emma (daughter of John and Jeane); Tobias and Lyla Serrian (children of Mark and Krista). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Terry Cescon and the staff of the McGlinn Cancer Center for providing excellent care for John.
