LOWER MERION – Additional improvements will  soon take place along County Line Road in Rosemont after Lower Merion approved a nearly $400,000 contract with G&B Construction Group, Inc.

The issue was discussed during a finance committee meeting in December, and the commissioners voted to approve the bids at their final meeting that month.

Adam Szumski, chief financial officer for Lower Merion, outlined the scope of the project during the finance committee meeting.

The work came out of a County Line Road Corridor Study that Lower Merion and Radnor townships had conducted. The study was conducted by Gilmore & Associates for the area between Lancaster Avenue and Haverford Road/Conestoga Road.

The work includes improvements at the County Line Road and Lancaster Avenue intersection in Rosemont. They will also replace and upgrade ADA ramps, modernize traffic signals, install new signage, and install new crosswalks and pavement markings. There will also be additional ADA improvements at three other intersections further down County Line Road at Warner Avenue, Old Lancaster Avenue and at Mondella Avenue.

Commissioner  Scott Zelov gave additional details on the project.

“These improvements flow from a traffic study that was conducted six years ago in conjunction with Radnor Township,” Zelov said. “County Line is the border between the two townships. The first improvement was a traffic light that was done a few years ago, and this is the second category of improvements. As we heard from Adam, the bid amount is 14% less than the estimate, and I believe the estimate goes back several years. This is not a new estimate because this project has been in the CIP in the network evaluation category for a number of years.”

Both townships agreed that the first project would be a new traffic signal at the intersection of County Line Road and Montrose Avenue. The project was awarded and completed in 2022.
